Topic: Counting from 1 to 10

Objectives & Outcomes:

• Students will be able to count from 1 to 10 accurately and fluently.

Materials

• Counting Bears or other counting objects (e.g. popsicle sticks, jellybeans, etc.)
• Chart paper or whiteboard and markers
• Pencils and paper for each student

Warm-up

• Review the counting basis: "one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten."
• Ask students to count with you from 1 to 10, emphasizing correct pronunciation and natural pace.
• Ask students to count by themselves from 1 to 10, providing support if needed.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the counting cubes or counters.
• Demonstrate how to count the objects by placing them in order from 1 to 10.
• Ask students to demonstrate how to count the objects by placing them in order from 1 to 10.
• Encourage students to practice counting the objects by placing them in order from 1 to 10.

Guided Practice

• Demonstrate how to count the objects by placing them in order from 1 to 10 again.
• Provide assistance as needed while students practice counting the objects by placing them in order from 1 to 10.

Independent Practice

• Have students use the felt-tip markers to color in the objects 1-10 on the felt board.
• Encourage students to use their counting skills to identify the objects and color them in correctly.

Closure

• Review the counting sequence from 1 to 10 with the class. Have students recite the counting sequence on their own and point to each object as they say it.
• Remind students to practice their counting skills at home and encourage them to ask questions if they have any difficulties.

Assessment

• Observe students during independent practice to assess their ability to count to 10 and use the correct counting sequence.
• Have students complete a counting quiz -with 10 questions- to check their understanding of counting to 10.
