Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

• Pictures of ancient Rome
• Map of ancient Rome and surrounding areas

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever heard of ancient Rome.
• Ask them what they already know about ancient Rome.
• Write their answers on the board and discuss as a class.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of ancient civilizations and explain that they are groups of people that lived long ago and had different ways of life and customs than we do today.
• Show students pictures or models of ancient Rome and ask them to describe what they see.
• Discuss the characteristics of ancient Rome, such as its location, government, and major buildings and monuments.
• Using the handouts, provide more detailed information about ancient Rome, including its history, culture, and key figures.
