Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to identify and use the plural form of nouns.

Materials

  • Pencils
  • Paper
  • Images of different kinds of nouns (e.g. dog, cat, car, tree, chair)
  • Pencil erasers

Warm-up

  • Ask students to look at the pictures and name the different kinds of nouns they see.
  • Encourage them to use the plural form of nouns (e.g. dogs, cats, cars, trees, chairs).
  • Ask them to share with the class any difficulties they might have with this task.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the concept of singular and plural nouns, and explain that they have different forms (e.g. dog-dogs, cat-cats).
  • Show students the pictures and have them name the different kinds of nouns.
  • Have them identify the singular form of each noun and write it on the board.
  • Then have them identify the plural form of each noun and write it on the board.
  • Finally, have them read the sentences containing plural nouns out loud, and make sure they use the correct form (e.g. "The cats are sleeping on the couch.").

Guided Practice

  • Have students work in pairs and give each pair a set of pictures and flashcards with singular and plural nouns on them.
  • Have them match the singular nouns to the singular form and the plural nouns to the plural form.
  • Then have them practice reading the sentences containing plural nouns out loud, and make sure they use the correct form.

Independent Practice

  • Have students work on a project-based activity where they have to create their own picture books.
  • They can choose any topic they like and create a story using pictures and the -plural form of nouns.
  • Have them write a short sentence for each picture, using a plural noun.
  • Then have them illustrate their books and present them to the class.

Closure

  • Review the key points of the lesson and have students demonstrate their -understanding by giving examples of different kinds of nouns and -using the plural form of nouns in sentences.

Assessment

  • Observe students during independent practice and provide feedback on their -use of the plural form of nouns in their written sentences.
