Free 1st Grade Thing In Our Home Lesson Plan (English)

Topic: Thing in our home

Objectives & Outcomes

  • By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to identify and name common kitchen items.

Materials

  • Pictures of common kitchen items (e.g. stove, sink, fridge, microwave, tea kettle)
  • Pencils and paper for each student

Warm-up

  • Show the students the pictures of the common kitchen items and ask them to name them. Write their answers on the board.
  • Ask the students if they have ever seen or visited a kitchen at home or at a restaurant. Ask them to share their experiences.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the concept of kitchen utensils and their names. Show the students the pictures of the utensils and ask them to identify them. Write their answers on the board.
  • Explain the purpose of each utensil and give an example of how it is used. For example, the spoon is used to eat soup and the fork is used to eat meat or vegetables.

Guided Practice:

  • Have the students work in pairs and give each pair a set of utensils. Have them use the utensils to manipulate the items on a tray (e.g. place a slice of bread on the plate using the spoon, place a piece of cheese on the plate using the fork).
  • As they are working, walk around the room and provide assistance as needed.

Independent Practice:

  • For the independent practice, have the students work in groups to create a "Thing Show" similar to a "Ranch-tastic -Renaissance" show. Each group will come up with a collection of items found in the kitchen and present a skit or performance to the class in which they identify and name the items. To make this more challenging, they can perform in a language other than English (e.g. Spanish).

Closure

  • Review the names of the items that were presented during the "Thing Show" activity and have the students share one thing they learned about -identifying and naming items found in the kitchen.

Assessment:

  • Observe the students during the "Thing Show" activity and listen to their independent practice to check their understanding of the names of the kitchen items. -Collect and review their names of the items written on the visuals or cards to assess their writing skills.
