Topic: Pet's Names

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to identify and name at least 5 different pets.

Materials

  • Pictures of different pets (e.g. dog, cat, fish, bird, rabbit)
  • Cardboard or whiteboard and markers

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they have any pets at home.
  • Ask them to name their pets and tell you some fun things their pets like to do.

Direct Instruction

  • Show the pictures of different pets and ask students to name each one.
  • Ask students to repeat the names after you and practice writing them on the board or a piece of paper.

Guided Practice

  • Have students work in pairs or small groups and give each group a set of the pictures of pets.
  • Have them practice naming the pets and encouraging each other to remember the names.

Independent Practice

  • Have students work on a project where they research and create a poster about a pet that they would like to own. They should include the pet's name and a description of what it looks like.

Closure

  • Ask students to share their posters with their classmates.
  • Review the names of the different pets that were mentioned in the project.

Assessment

  • Observe students during the sorting activity and during the independent practice activity to assess their ability to memorize and recall the names of different pets.
  • Collect and review the posters that students create during the independent practice activity to assess their ability to learn and correctly spell the names of different pets.
