Topic: Naming pets

Objectives & Outcomes

  • By the end of this lesson, students will be able to name at least 3 pets.

Materials

  • Picture cards of different pets (dogs, cats, birds, etc.)
  • List of pet names for students to practice with

Warm-up

  • Review nouns and adjectives.
  • Ask students if they have any pets at home, and what their names are.
  • Write their responses on the board.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the new vocabulary words "pet" and "name."
  • Ask students to think about a pet that they know and imagine what its name might be.
  • Write their responses on the board.
  • Ask students to think about what their own pet's name is. Write their responses on the board.

Guided Practice

  • Divide students into small groups.
  • Give each group a set of pictures of different pets.
  • Have them look at the pictures and guess what the names of the pets might be.
  • Write the names on the board next to the pictures.
  • Ask students to share their guesses with the rest of the class.

Independent Practice

  • Give each student a sheet with pictures of different pets.
  • Have them name the pets and write the names on the page.

Closure

  • Ask the students to share one thing they learned about naming pets.
  • Review the different ways to name pets and the importance of giving pets names.

Assessment

  • Observe the students during the guided and independent practice to see if they are able to name their pets.
