Topic: My Pets

Objectives & Outcomes

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to name at least 3 different pets.

Materials

  • Pictures of different pets (e.g. cat, dog, fish, bird, rabbit)
  • Chart paper and markers

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they have any pets at home.
  • Ask them to name some of the pets they have.
  • Write the names of the pets on the chart paper.

Direct Instruction

  • Show the pictures of different pets to the students.
  • Ask them to identify the pets and name them.
  • Encourage them to repeat the names of the pets after you.

Guided Practice

  • Show the pictures of the pets again and ask the students to identify and name them.
  • Give them time to look at the pictures and think about the names.
  • When they are ready, have them say the names out loud together with you.

Independent Practice

  • Give each student a piece of paper and a pen.
  • Ask them to draw a picture of their pet and write its name under the picture.
  • Encourage them to use the sounds they learned to spell the pet names.

Closure

  • Have the students say the names of their pets and the sounds they made.
  • Ask them to point to the pictures and say the names again.
  • Remind them to listen carefully and pay attention to the sounds in words.

Assessment

  • Observe the students during the independent practice to see if they are able to name their pets and make the correct sounds.
  • Listen to the students during the closure to assess their understanding of the lesson.
