Feelings

Topic: Feelings

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to identify and label different feelings.

Materials

  • Poster with images of different feelings (happy, sad, angry, scared, surprised, excited)
  • Chart paper and markers

Warm-up

  • Show the students the poster with images of different feelings and ask them to point to the picture of the feeling they are experiencing right now.
  • Discuss with the students the different ways we can express our feelings.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the concept of feelings to the students. Explain that feelings are what we feel inside our body, and they can be positive or negative.
  • Show the students the poster with images of different feelings and discuss each one in turn. Ask the students to give examples of times when they have experienced each feeling.
  • Model appropriate ways to express our feelings. For example, if a student is feeling frustrated, you can say, "I am feeling frustrated because I can't solve this puzzle. I might try a different approach or take a break."

Guided Practice

  • Divide the students into pairs and give each pair a set of felt pieces.
  • Show the student the image of a feeling on the board and have them identify it.
  • Have the students use the felt pieces to create a representation of the feeling on their own bodies. Encourage the students to use their creativity and come up with their own unique representation.
  • After all the students have finished, gather the pairs together and lead a discussion about their creations. What did they choose to represent the feeling on their bodies? Why did they choose those materials?

Independent Practice

  • Give each student a sheet of paper and a pencil.
  • Ask the students to draw a picture of a feeling and write a word to describe it.
  • Have the students share their pictures with the class and lead a discussion about the feelings that were depicted.

Closure

  • Review the different feelings that were discussed during the lesson.
  • Ask the students to share something they learned about feelings today.

Assessment

  • Observe the students during the skit and independent practice to see if they are able to identify and express different feelings.
  • Collect and review the students' drawings and written sentences to assess their understanding of feelings.
