Topic: Anatomy and physiology of the human body

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to identify and describe the different parts of the human body and their functions.

Materials

  • Pictures of the human body
  • List of body parts and their functions
  • Construction paper and scissors
  • Glue sticks

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they know what the human body is and what it does. Let them answer and discuss as a class.
  • Show students the pictures of the human body and ask them to identify the different body parts. Write their answers on the board.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the concept of voice modulation and explain that it means changing the way we use our voices to communicate different feelings and emotions.
  • Show students the pictures of different emotions and have them identify which body part is being used to communicate each emotion. Discuss as a class.
  • Demonstrate how to use different body parts to communicate different emotions, using the pictures as a reference.

Guided Practice

  • Have students work in small groups and give each group a set of pictures of emotions.
  • Have them use the pictures to help them identify the different emotions being communicated and have them describe why they think that is the correct emotion.
  • Have each group share their findings with the class and discuss any differences they see.

  • Have students work on a project-based independent practice activity in which they create a series of pictures that show the progression of a specific emotion (e.g. happy to sad, excited to bored).
  • Have them use the skills they have learned about voice modulation to try to convey the emotion through their drawings.
  • Have students present their artwork to the class and explain the emotion that they are trying to convey through their pictures.

Closure

  • Review the different strategies for using voice modulation to convey emotions in a project.
  • Have students share something that they learned about using their voice to express emotions during the activity.

Assessment

  • Observe students during the presentation and discussion activities to assess their understanding of the different strategies for using voice modulation to convey emotions.
  • Collect and review their written reflections on the different emotions and the strategies they used to express them.
