Sea World Lesson Plan for 1st Grade Students

Topic: sea worlds

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to draw a sea world painting with water coloring.

Materials

• Watercolors
• White paper
• Pencil
• Ruler
• Sea world template (optional)

Warm-up

• Show the students a picture of a sea world and ask them if they have ever been to sea world.
• Ask the students what they remember about the sea world they visited.
• Discuss the different animals and attractions found at sea world.

Direct Instruction

• Show the students a picture of a sea world and ask them to describe what they see.
• Discuss the different buildings and attractions found at sea world.
• Explain that today the students are going to learn how to draw a sea world painting using water coloring.

Guided Practice

• Divide the students into small groups and give each group a sheet of construction paper and a set of watercolors.
• Demonstrate how to use the watercolors to paint on the construction paper, explaining the difference between using a brush and using the tip of the watercolor tube.
• Encourage the students to use lots of different colors in their paintings and to think about what they would like to include in their drawings.

Independent Practice

• Once the students have had time to work on their paintings, have them share their work with the rest of the class.
• Encourage the students to explain what they have included in their paintings and why they chose to include those things.

Closure

• Have the students put away their paintings and supplies.
• Review the objectives for the lesson and ask the students to share what they have learned.

Assessment

• Observe the students as they work on their paintings and provide feedback on their understanding of the lesson's objectives.
• Collect the students' paintings and use them to assess their ability to use watercolors to paint a sea world and their ability to use proper stroke technique when drawing and painting.
