Objectives & Outcomes

  • By the end of this lesson, students will be able to create a properly formatted video game manuscript.

Materials

  • A copy of the video game manuscript template (provided by the instructor)
  • A computer with a word processing program installed (e.g. Microsoft Word)
  • An example video game manuscript for reference (optional)

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they have ever played a video game.
  • Ask them to name their favorite video game and briefly describe what it is about.
  • Ask students if they know how video games are made and how the story is developed.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the concept of scriptwriting and explain that it is the process of developing a story and writing it down in a proper format so that it can be used to make a video game.
  • Show examples of properly formatted scripts and explain the various elements that they contain, such as scenes, dialogue, and actions.
  • Explain the importance of formatting in ensuring that the script is easy to read and follow.

Guided Practice

  • Have students work in pairs to create a short script for a video game, following the proper formatting and including all the necessary elements.

  • Have students share their completed scripts with the class, and have the class provide feedback and discuss any challenges they faced when writing their scripts.

  • Observe students during independent practice to assess their understanding of the key points of the lesson and their ability to properly format and write a video game script.
