Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

  • Writing paper

Warm-up

  • Divide the class into small groups, and give each group a set of questions to help them create a written or photographic narrative of a significant event or period in their lives.
  • Have each group share their narratives with the class, and facilitate a discussion about the significance of their chosen event or period in their lives.
  • Have students create a visual representation of their narrative using collage or other media.

Independent Practice

  • Assign each student a family member or other significant figure from their past, and have them create a written or photographic narrative of their chosen person's life.
  • Have students present their narratives to the class, and facilitate a discussion about the significance of their chosen person in their lives.

Closure

  • Have students think about the legacy they want to leave behind, and write down their thoughts on the subject.
  • Encourage students to reflect on their own legacies and think about how they can make a positive impact on the world.

Assessment

  • Observe students during the brainstorming and writing stages to assess their understanding of the concept of a living legacy.
