Objectives & Outcomes

  • By the end of this lesson, students will be able to count from 1 to 5 and identify the numbers.

Materials

  • Card with numbers 1 to 5 on it
  • 5 small objects (such as beans or buttons) for counting practice
  • Whiteboard and markers

Warm-up

  • Review the concept of numbers and counting. Ask the students to count from 1 to 5, then have them recite the numbers out loud.
  • Ask the students to name the numbers they see on the whiteboard.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the numbers 1 to 5 and their corresponding objects. Have the students hold up the corresponding number of fingers for each number.
  • Ask the students to name the numbers out loud as you show them on the whiteboard.

Guided Practice

  • Using the counting chart, ask the students to count the objects one by one and write the number on the chart. Have the students count the objects one by one and then write the number on the chart.

Independent Practice

  • Have the students use the markers to color in the numbers on the counting chart. Encourage the students to check their work and correct any mistakes.

Closure

  • Review the numbers 1-5 and have the students count to each number.
