Topic: physiology of the cells

Objectives & Outcomes

• To understand the cell composition and its functions, including the cell membrane and cytoplasmic organelles.

Materials

• Diagrams of the cell composition and its organelles (e.g. membrane diagram, cytoplasmic organelle diagram)
• Handouts with information on cell composition and functions (e.g. functions of the cell membrane, functions of the cytoplasmic organelles)
• Pencils and paper for note-taking

Warm-up

• Ask students to recall what they know about cells. Write their responses on the board.
• Ask students to name the three main components of a cell (e.g. nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane).
• Lead a discussion on the role of each component in the functioning of the cell.

Direct Instruction

• Show the images of the cell components on the screen and discuss their functions.
• Explain the importance of cytoplasmic organelles in the cell's functions, such as protein synthesis, energy production, and waste removal.
• Discuss the role of the cell membrane in regulating the entry and exit of substances into and out of the cell.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to label the images of the cell components on the handout.
• Go over the labels as a class and discuss the functions of each component.

Independent Practice

• Have students draw and label a diagram of a typical cell in their notebook.
