Pemetaan Geologi Lesson Plan for 12th Grade Students

Topic: Pemetaan Geologi: Alat, Aplikasi, dan Software Penunjang

Topic: Pemetaan Geologi: Alat, Aplikasi, dan Software Penunjang

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Memahami alat, aplikasi, dan software penunjang untuk pemetaan geologi.

Materials

  • Computer with internet connection
  • Handout with information about geologic survey equipment, applications, and software

Warm-up

  • Ask students to brainstorm a list of words or phrases related to geology and exploration. Write their responses on the board.
  • Ask students if they have heard of geologic surveys or geological mapping before. What do they know about these topics?

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the concept of geologic surveys and geological mapping. Explain that these activities are used to identify and map out the distribution and characteristics of different geological features and materials, such as rocks, minerals, and groundwater.
  • Discuss the various types of tools and techniques used in geologic surveys and mapping. Examples include:
  • Hand-held GPS units and total stations: Used to collect precise coordinates and elevations of features on the ground
  • Triangulation and meridian tracing: Used to create a map by connecting points using straight lines, and by estimating distances and directions between points
  • Hand-held rock and mineral identification kits: Used to identify the types of materials found on the ground
  • Hand-held soil testing kits: Used to test the properties of the soil
  • Discuss the importance of geologic surveys and mapping in various industries and applications, such as:
  • Planning and designing infrastructure projects, such as roads, pipelines, and buildings
  • Protecting against natural hazards, such as landslides and earthquakes
  • Ensuring safe and sustainable natural resource management, such as mining and forestry
  • Introduce the concept of geological software and its applications. Explain that there are various types of software used in geologic surveys and mapping, such as GIS (geographic information system) software, 3D modeling software, and data analysis software.
  • Demonstrate how to use basic features of a geologic software package, such as how to create maps and 3D models, and how to analyze and interpret data.

Guided Practice

  • Provide students with a set of data collected during a geologic survey, such as hand-held GPS positions and elevations, and ask them to create a map using the software.
  • Have students work in pairs or small groups to analyze and interpret the data, and present their findings to the class.

Independent Practice

  • Ask students to conduct their own geologic survey using GPS equipment and a field survey notebook, and then create a map of their findings using the software.
  • Encourage students to be creative and think critically about their data analysis and interpretation.

Closure

  • Have students share their completed maps and discuss their findings as a group.
  • Ask students to reflect on what they have learned about geologic surveying and the importance of using GPS equipment and field survey software.

Assessment:

  • Observe students as they work on their independent practice maps and provide feedback.
  • Evaluate the completed maps to assess understanding of surveying techniques and the use of GPS equipment and field survey software.
