Objectives & Outcomes

Warm-up

• Ask the students to name some common uses of computers. Write their answers on the board.
• Ask the students to name some computer components they are familiar with. Write their answers on the board.
• Review the answers on the board and discuss the importance of each component.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of computer hardware and software.
• Discuss the different types of hardware components, their functions, and their interconnections (e.g. motherboard, CPU, RAM, storage devices).
• Discuss the different types of software and their functions (e.g. operating system, applications).
• Explain how software is installed and updated.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to complete a worksheet on computer hardware and software.
• Go over the worksheet together as a class, answering any questions and clarifying any confusing concepts.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose one topic from the list of computer essentials to research on their own.
• Ask them to create a brief presentation (e.g. powerpoint, prezi) on their topic, which they can give to the class.

Closure

• Review the key concepts discussed in the lesson.
• Ask students to share one thing they learned or found interesting during the lesson.
