Topic: History and Current Status of Psychological Testing

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to understand the history and current status of psychological testing, including the different types of tests and their applications.

Materials

• Examples of different types of psychological tests (e.g. IQ tests, personality tests, aptitude tests)
• Handouts with information about the history and current status of psychological testing

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever taken a psychology class or have any knowledge of psychological testing.
• Have a brief discussion about the importance of psychological testing and why it is used.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of psychological testing and explain what it is used for.
• Discuss various types of psychological tests, including intelligence tests, personality tests, and mental status exams.
• Provide examples of each type of test and explain the purpose and characteristics of each.
• Explain the procedures for administering and scoring psychological tests.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to administer and score a psychological test, such as an intelligence test or a personality test.
• Assist students as needed and provide feedback on their practice.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose a psychological topic of interest and conduct a research project on it.
• Encourage students to be creative and think critically about their research topic.
• Provide support and guidance as needed, but allow students to independently complete their research projects.

Closure

• Have each student present their research project to the class.
• Ask students to reflect on what they have learned during the independent practice and how they can apply this knowledge to their own lives.

Assessment

• Observe students during their independent practice and assess their ability to conduct a research project and present their findings.
• Administer a quiz or written assessment to assess students' understanding of the principles covered in the lesson.
