Topic: wound care

Objectives & Outcomes

• To understand the basic principles of wound care and the steps involved in proper wound management.

Materials

• Video capsules on wound care (can be found online)
• Handouts with basic information on wound care
• Drawing paper and pencils/pens for practice

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever had a wound or know someone who has had a wound.
• Ask them to describe the wound and the treatment they received for it.
• Discuss with the students the importance of proper wound care and why it is crucial for recovery.

Direct Instruction

• Show students the video capsules on wound care.
• Discuss the different steps of wound care, including cleaning, dressing, and monitoring.
• Emphasize the importance of each step and the potential risks of not following proper wound care procedures.

Guided Practice:

• Pass out the wound care handouts to the students and have them complete the worksheets.
• Have the students work in pairs to practice the steps of wound care on a mannequin or stuffed animal.
• Encourage the students to ask questions and practice the procedure thoroughly.

Independent Practice:

• Have the students work in small groups to create a short video that demonstrates the steps of wound care.
• Encourage the students to use props and acting to help convey the steps of the procedure.
• Have the students present their videos to the class.

Closure

• Review the key points of wound care with the students.
• Have the students share any new insights they gained about wound care during the lesson.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the independent practice activity and give feedback on their wound care videos.
• Have the students take a quiz to assess their understanding of the key points of wound care.
