Topic: How to request favors

Objectives & Outcomes

• At the end of this lesson, students will be able to request a favor in a polite and respectful manner.

Materials

• Copies of the text of "The Gettysburg Address"
• Pencils
• Paper

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever had to ask someone for a favor.
• Ask for examples of favors that they have asked for and received.
• Discuss how it is important to be polite when asking for a favor.

Direct Instruction

• Explain that there are different ways to ask for a favor.
• Discuss the importance of being polite and respectful when asking for a favor.
• Explain that it is also important to be clear about what you are asking for and to be specific about how you would like the favor to be done.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to practice asking for a favor in a polite and respectful way.
• Have them practice being clear about what they are asking for and specific about how they would like the favor to be done.
• Have them practice saying "please" and "thank you."

Independent Practice

• For the independent practice activity, have students work on a project-based activity where they have to ask for a favor in real life.
• Have them come up with a creative way to ask for the favor that shows they have paid attention to and followed the guidelines from the lesson.
• Have them create a presentation or a poster to show their classmate what they have learned and how they have applied it in practice.

Closure

• Review the key takeaways from the lesson: why it is important to ask for favors, the proper way to ask for a favor, and the proper way to thank the person who has done the favor for us.
• Have a few students share their presentations or posters with the class.

Assessment

• Observe students during the independent practice activity and give feedback on their ability to -request and thank for favors appropriately.
• Evaluate the posters or presentations for understanding of the topic.
