Topic: Self-Description and Basic Information Exchange

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to describe themselves using American Sign Language.
  • Students will be able to ask basic questions to get information about another person.

Materials

  • American Sign Language vocabulary for self-description and basic information exchange
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed copies of the vocabulary for each student

Warm-up

  • Ask students to partner up with a partner.
  • Give each student a printed copy of the vocabulary.
  • Have them go through the vocabulary and match each sign with the English equivalent.
  • After a few minutes, have a few pairs share their answers with the class.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the topic of describing oneself and asking questions.
  • Use the vocabulary list and demonstrate the signs for each word.
  • Show examples of how to use the signs to ask questions and describe oneself.
