Objectives & Outcomes

• To be able to read and understand announcements on a middle school bulletin board.

Criteria

• Can identify and read all announcements on the bulletin board.
• Understands the content of announcements and can explain the information to others.

Materials

• Bulletin board with announcements
• Pen or pencil

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever visited a middle school or high school.
• Ask them to describe the bulletin board they saw and if they could read any of the announcements.

Direct Instruction

• Explain that bulletin boards are a way for schools to communicate with students and parents.
• Ask students to brainstorm the different types of announcements they might find on a bulletin board, such as upcoming events, school announcements, and lost and found items.
• Show students the sample bulletin board and have them identify the different types of announcements.
• Have students work with a partner to read and summarize the announcements on the bulletin board.

Guided Practice

• Have students work with a partner to read and listen to the notices. Circle the best title.
• Have students read the notices again and complete the chart with the time and places.

Independent Practice

• Have students make a list of activities at the school. Then say their favorite activities.
• Have students create a poster or presentation to share their opinion with the class.

Closure

• Review the main points covered in the lesson.
• Have students share their posters or presentations with the class.

Assessment

• Observe students during the independent practice to assess their understanding of the material.
• Collect and evaluate the posters or presentations created during independent practice.
