Introducing Yourself And Friends Speaking Lesson Plan for 12th Grade Students

Topic: Greeting, introductions, and asking about friends

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to properly introduce themselves and their friends.
• Students will be able to use correct pronunciation and phrases to ask information about a friend.

Materials

• White board and markers
• Handouts with basic phrases and pronunciations for greeting, introducing, and asking about friends

Warm-up

• Have students stand up and spread out in the room.
• Call out a name and have the student who has that name stand up and introduce him or herself to the class using the phrases and pronunciations on the handout.
• Continue with the rest of the students.

Direct Instruction

• Review the phrases and pronunciations on the handout with the class.
• Emphasize the importance of using proper pronunciation when introducing yourself or greeting someone.
• Discuss the different ways to ask questions about a friend, such as "What's your name?" and "Where are you from?"

Guided Practice

• Divide the class into small groups.
• Give each group a set of index cards or blank pieces of paper.
• Have the students write their own names on the cards and then write a short introduction next to their names.
• Have the students practice introducing themselves to their group members and asking questions about each other.

Independent Practice

• Have the students work in pairs and pretend they are meeting for the first time.
• Have one student introduce him/herself to the other and ask questions about the other student.
• Encourage the students to use the correct greetings and phrases.
• Have the students switch roles and repeat the activity.

Closure

• Review the key phrases and greetings that were learned during the lesson.
• Ask the students to share any questions or problems they encountered during the lesson.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the guided and independent practice activities to assess their understanding of the material.
• Collect and review the student's written work for accuracy and use of proper phrases and greetings.
