Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to describe their hobbies and interests using present tenses: present continuous, present used as future.
• Students will be able to expand their vocabulary related to activities and lifestyle.

Materials

• Pen and paper for each student
• Sticky notes or small pieces of paper

Warm-up

• Ask students to think about what they like to do in their free time. Write their answers on the board.
• Ask volunteers to share their answers with the class.
• Encourage students to ask questions about the activities mentioned.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of hobbies and interests.
• Explain that hobbies are activities that people enjoy doing in their free time.
• Emphasize that interests are broader than hobbies and can include hobbies, but also other things that a person is interested in, such as sports, music, or fashion.
• Provide examples of hobbies and interests using the list that was created during the warm-up activity.
• Introduce the present continuous tense and explain that it is used to talk about ongoing activities.
• Use the present continuous tense to describe the hobbies and interests mentioned by the volunteers.
• Explain that the present continuous can also be used to talk about the future, by combining it with "will" or "going to."

Guided Practice

• Divide the class into small groups and provide each group with a list of questions about hobbies and interests.
• Have each group ask the questions to the other group members and write down the answers on the board.
• As a class, go over the answers and discuss any questions or comments that the students have.
• Provide additional examples of how to use the present continuous tense to describe ongoing activities.

• The scrapbook should include pictures, descriptions, and quotes about their hobbies and interests.
