Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they have ever heard of the simple present tense before. Ask them to describe what it is and how it is used.
  • Write the following sentences on the whiteboard:
  • I go to school everyday.
  • We play soccer every weekend.
  • You study hard every night.
  • Have students read the sentences aloud and correct any mistakes they find.

Direct Instruction

  • Review the present tense and its uses in French.
  • Explain that the simple present tense is used to talk about habits, regular actions, and present situations.
  • Demonstrate how to conjugate regular -er, -ir, and -re verbs in the simple present tense.
  • Model how to use the simple present tense in different contexts, such as giving instructions, making predictions, and describing habits.
  • Have students practice conjugating -er, -ir, and -re verbs in the simple present tense.

Guided Practice

  • Have students work in pairs and provide them with a list of common -er, -ir, and -re verbs.
