Objectives & Outcomes

• Upon completion of this module, students will be able to use the basic tools and functions of Adobe Photoshop to create and edit images.

Materials

• Computer with Adobe Photoshop installed
• Handouts with instructions for using Adobe Photoshop basic tools and functions

Warm-up

• Have students work in pairs to create a collage using random images and elements from the computer. Encourage them to be creative and have fun with their composition.
• After they have finished creating their collage, have each pair share their composition with the class and explain their decisions regarding the placement of the elements.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the students to the basic tools and functions of Adobe Photoshop.
• Show them how to navigate the interface and open and save images.
• Demonstrate how to use the tools to perform basic image editing tasks, such as cropping, scaling, and adjusting contrast and color.
• Show them how to use the various tools in the toolbar to make basic edits, such as cutting, pasting, and deleting pixels.

Guided Practice

• Have the students work in pairs to practice using the basic tools and functions of Adobe Photoshop.
• Give them a few images and have them practice using the tools to perform basic edits.

Independent Practice

• Have the students work on a project-based independent practice activity.
• Give them a list of images that need basic edits and have them use Adobe Photoshop to perform the edits.

Closure

• Have the students share their projects with the class.
