Topic: Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology

Objectives & Outcomes

• Understand the concepts of structure and function in living things.

Materials

• Human or animal anatomy model
• Handouts with illustrations and descriptions of parts of the body
• Pen or pencil

Warm-up

• Have students stand up and stretch. Ask them to focus on a particular body part, such as the hand, and think about what it does and how it looks. Then, have them share their thoughts with a partner.
• Ask the class to raise their hands if the body part they were thinking about is a structure (e.g. bones, organs, etc.), and to raise their hand if the body part is a system (e.g. skeletal, muscular, etc.).

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the class to the terms used to describe body structures and functions, such as:
• skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems
