Topic: Technology in welding

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to explain how technology is used in welding and describe some of the different welding techniques.

Materials

• Pictures or videos of different welding techniques
• Handouts with information about different welding techniques
• Laboratory equipment for demonstrating the different welding techniques (e.g. welding machine, electrodes, protective gear)

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever seen or heard of welding before. Ask them to describe what it is and how it is used.
• Display the pictures or videos of different welding techniques and ask students to analyze how technology is used in each one.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of welding and explain that it is a process by which two or more pieces of metal are joined together by using heat and pressure.
• Explain that there are different types of welding, each using a different type of equipment and technique.
• Show the students the pictures or videos of different welding techniques and discuss how technology is used in each one.
• Discuss the different types of equipment and materials used in welding, and the importance of ensuring proper safety measures when working with these materials and equipment.

Guided Practice:

• Have the students work in pairs and give each pair a set of pictures or videos of different welding techniques.
• Have the students analyze the pictures/videos and identify the type of welding being performed, the equipment and materials used, and the safety measures being taken.
• Have the students discuss their findings with their partner and explain how technology is used in each example.
