Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

• Maps of the world showing major bodies of water
• Information about key voyages and discoveries related to specific bodies of water

Warm-up

• Ask students to brainstorm a list of major bodies of water around the world. Write their responses on the board.
• Discuss the importance of having knowledge of the world's oceans and their benefits to humanity.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of the history of oceanography and the major voyages and people that helped discover specific bodies of water.
• Use the handouts to provide students with brief summaries of the major voyages and discoveries.
