Free 11th Grade Target Game Frisbee Golf Lesson Plan (Physical Education)

Topic: Target Game

Objectives & Outcomes

  • By the end of this lesson, students will be able to design and implement a target game using Frisbee golf discs.

Materials

  • Frisbee golf discs (at least 4)
  • Balloons
  • String
  • Markers
  • Construction paper

Warm-up

  • To begin the lesson, have students form a small circle.
  • Hand each student a Frisbee golf disc and a balloon.
  • Instruct them to hold the balloon in one hand and the Frisbee in the other.
  • Have them try to throw the Frisbee into the balloon, taking turns to throw.
  • When a student succeeds in throwing the Frisbee into the balloon, have them put their name on the wall as a reward for their effort.
  • After a few rounds, ask the students if they think they could throw the Frisbee into a particular target (e.g. a specific balloon, a certain spot on the wall).
  • Encourage them to try to reach the target.

Direct Instruction

  • Once the warm-up activity is complete, introduce the concept of Frisbee golf to the students.
  • Explain that Frisbee golf involves trying to throw a Frisbee into a series of targets using a predetermined pattern.
  • Show the students the Frisbee golf disc and explain how it is designed to help them reach the targets.
  • Explain the different types of targets and the corresponding patterns:
  • Hole: The Frisbee must be thrown into a hole in the ground.
  • Window: The Frisbee must be thrown into a hole cut out of cardboard.
  • Tree: The Frisbee must be thrown into a hole cut out of a tree branch.
  • Demonstrate how to throw the Frisbee golf disc to reach each target, using the corresponding pattern as a guide.

Guided Practice

  • Divide the students into pairs and give each pair a set of targets, a Frisbee golf disc, and a copy of the target patterns.
  • Have the students work together to practice throwing the Frisbee golf disc to reach each target, using the corresponding pattern as a guide.
  • The teacher can walk around to assist and to ensure that the students are using the correct throwing technique.

Independent Practice

  • Have the students work individually or in small groups to complete a Frisbee golf course using the targets and target patterns provided.
  • Encourage the students to be creative and to try to make the course as challenging as possible.
  • Provide assistance as needed, but allow the students to complete the course on their own.

Closure

  • Have each group show their Frisbee golf course to the rest of the class.
  • Ask the students to give feedback on the courses they saw and to point out any areas that they think need to be improved.
  • Have the students reflect on the process of creating their Frisbee golf course and discuss what they learned.

Assessment

  • Observe the students as they work on creating their Frisbee golf courses and provide feedback.
  • Have the students reflect on the process of creating their Frisbee golf course in their written reflection.
