Topic: Poem voice of the rain

Objectives & Outcomes

• Student will be able to understand the poem voice of the rain by Walt Whitman.
• Student will be able to analyze the theme and mood of the poem.

Materials

• Copies of the poem voice of the rain by Walt Whitman
• Chart paper and markers
• Colored pencils or pens

Warm-up

• Ask students to close their eyes and imagine the rain falling from the sky.
• Ask them to describe the sound of the rain hitting the ground, the smell of the wet earth, the feeling of being wet in the rain.
• Have students share their experiences and observations with the class.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the poem "Voice of the Rain" by Walt Whitman.
• Explain that the poem is a conversation between the poet and the rain.
• Read the poem aloud to the class, pausing after each line to discuss the imagery and metaphors used.
