Objectives & Outcomes

• Understand how values and ethics are implemented in digital society
• Learn how to abide by digital ethics and values in daily life

Materials

• Laptop or tablet computer with internet access
• Slides or other visual materials for the presentation

Warm-up

• Ask students to share what they know about values and ethics.
• Write their answers on the board.
• Explain that values are principles or standards that guide our behaviour, while ethics are the rules or ideals that guide our conduct and decisions.

Direct Instruction

• Distribute the handout with definitions of values and ethics.
• Review the definitions as a class, making sure that students understand the differences between values and ethics.
• Explain that values and ethics play an important role in digital society, as they guide our behaviour and decisions in a world where technology and information are constantly evolving.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in small groups to discuss a current issue in digital society, such as the use of social media by politicians or cyberbullying.
• Ask each group to identify the values and ethics that are at stake in the issue they have chosen, and how these values and ethics are reflected in the behaviour of the people involved.
• Have each group present their findings to the class, and discuss as a group how values and ethics can influence behaviour in digital society.

Direct Instruction

• Have students work in small groups to create a campaign slogan about values and ethics in digital society.
• Give each group a piece of paper and a marker or pen, and ask them to brainstorm ideas for their slogan.
• Have each group present their slogan to the class and explain how it reflects their understanding of values and ethics in digital society.
• As a class, discuss the slogans created by the different groups and how they demonstrate an awareness of values and ethics in digital society.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose a topic that they are interested in and can easily find information about online. For example, they could choose a football team, an athlete, or a charity.
• Ask students to find information about their chosen topic, and to use this information to create a poster about values and ethics in digital society.
