Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to understand the importance of maintaining healthy relationships with classmates, friends, and family members.

Materials

• Whiteboard and markers
• Handouts with tips for maintaining healthy relationships

Warm-up

• Ask students to share their experiences with relationships and how they were able to resolve any issues that arose.
• Write their responses on the board and explore common themes or problems that were mentioned.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of conflict in relationships and how it can affect the health of a relationship.
• Discuss different types of conflict, such as emotional, physical, and verbal, and provide examples of each.
• Explain how conflict can be resolved through communication and negotiation.
• Emphasize the importance of listening and understanding the perspective of both parties.

Guided Practice

• Divide the class into small groups and give each group a scenario in which conflict has occurred in a relationship.
• Have the groups discuss the conflict and brainstorm ways in which it could be resolved.
• Have each group share their ideas with the class and discuss why each option is or is not a good strategy for resolving the conflict.

Independent Practice

• Give each student a piece of paper and have them brainstorm ways in which they could maintain a relationship with a -person who is important to them.
• Have students choose one idea from their list and write a short paragraph describing how they will implement the strategy in their daily life.

Closure

• Review the five strategies for maintaining relationships and discuss the importance of each.
• Ask students to share their paragraphs with the class and explain how they plan to use the strategy to maintain their relationships.

Assessment

• Observe students during the independent practice to evaluate their understanding of the strategy and their ability to apply it in a real-life situation.
• Collect and grade the paragraphs written for the independent practice to assess students' ability to apply the strategy in a written format.
