Topic: My Relationship and Maintaining Relationships

Objectives & Outcomes

• To understand the importance of relationships and the role they play in our lives
• To learn techniques for maintaining healthy and rewarding relationships

Materials

• Handout on the importance of relationships and maintaining relationships
• Colored pencils or markers
• Note cards and pens

Warm-up

• Have students get into small groups and play a game where they have to draw a picture of their family without looking at a picture of a family. After a few minutes, have each group share their drawings and discuss how accurate they were.
• Ask students whether they feel their families are close and supportive, and why or why not.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of relationships and the importance of maintaining them.
• Discuss the various types of relationships that people can have, such as family, friends, and romantic partners.
• Emphasize the importance of communication and understanding in relationships.
• Have students brainstorm ways to maintain healthy relationships, such as being honest and caring for one another's feelings.

Guided Practice

• Divide the class into small groups and have each group discuss and come up with a list of ways to maintain healthy relationships.
• Have each group present their list to the class and discuss any common themes or ideas.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose one of the ways from the list and write a short essay explaining how they will implement that strategy in their own relationships.

Closure

• As a class, discuss the importance of relationships and how implementing the strategies discussed can help us to maintain them.

Assessment

• Observe students during independent practice to assess their understanding of the material and their ability to apply the strategies to a real-life relationship.
• Collect and review the Venn diagrams or written reflections to assess student understanding and ability to apply the strategies.
