Topic: Personal Values and Career Choice

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify their personal values.
• Students will be able to use their self-knowledge of personal values in making a career choice.

Materials

• Chart paper and markers
• Personal values worksheet (provided by instructor)

Warm-up

• Have students complete the personal values worksheet (provided by instructor) to gain self-awareness of their personal values.
• Ask students to share their personal values with a partner.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of personal values and their importance in making career decisions.
• Discuss the personal values worksheet and how it can be used to identify personal values.
• Have a class discussion about the personal values identified by the students.

Guided Practice

• Divide the class into small groups and have each group discuss the personal values they have identified and how they can use this self-knowledge in making a career choice.
• Have each group share their ideas with the class.
• Discuss the different ways in which personal values can be used to make career decisions.

Independent Practice

• Have students create a collage or poster board to show how their personal values can be used to make career decisions. They can include pictures or quotes that represent their personal values and how they can use this self-knowledge in making a career choice.

Closure

• Have students share their collage or poster board with the class. Discuss the importance of personal values in making a career choice and how understanding our personal values can help us find a career that is a good fit for us.

Assessment

• Assess student understanding through a written reflection or a verbal presentation on the importance of personal values in making a career choice. You can also assess student understanding through evaluating their collage or poster board, looking for evidence of personal values and how they might influence a career choice.
