Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify and give the name of different types of measurements (kilometer, meter, centimeter, mile, feet).
• Students will be able to use measurements to measure meniscus, volume, and area.

Materials

• Lemon juice or water
• Measuring cups
• Measuring spoons
• Calculator
• Paper
• Pen

Warm-up

• Show students a measuring cup and a measuring spoon and ask them to describe how they would use each to measure a liquid.
• Have students work in pairs to come up with as many liquid measuring examples as they can think of, including lemon juice or water.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the term "measurement" and explain that it is the process of measuring something to find out its size or amount.
• Discuss the different types of measurements, such as kilometer, meter, centimeter, mile, feet, and others.
• Demonstrate how to use a measuring cup to measure a liquid, and how to use a measuring spoon to measure a solid.
• Show students how to use a ruler to measure in inches or centimeters.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to measure various objects in the room using the provided measuring tools.
• Have students write down the measurements and compare them to the expected values.
• Discuss any mistakes and how to avoid them.

Independent Practice

• Have students work in groups to measure the volume of a liquid using a beaker and a graduated cylinder.
• Have students calculate the volume and draw a graph of volume versus volume of liquid.
• Have students discuss the results and draw any conclusions they can make.

Closure

• Review the importance of using measurements in daily life.
• Ask students to give examples of how they use measurements in their daily lives.
• Ask students to share any challenges they faced while measuring the volume of liquid.

Assessment

• Observe students during the independent practice and provide feedback.
• Review and evaluate their measuring activities, such as their calculations and their drawing skills.
