Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to compare and contrast different social media platforms and services, including their features, functionalities, and usability.

Materials

• Handout with a list of popular social media platforms and services (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat)
• Computers or laptops with internet access for students

Warm-up

• Ask students if they are familiar with any social media platforms or services. Write their responses on the board.
• Ask students to name the social media platform or service they use most often.
• Discuss the benefits and drawbacks of social media with students.

Direct Instruction

• Review the list of social media platforms or services mentioned by students.
• Discuss the unique features and functionality of each platform or service.
• Provide examples of how to use each platform or service effectively and safely.

Guided Practice

• Divide students into small groups.
• Give each group a list of social media platforms or services to compare and contrast.
• Have students work together to compare and contrast the platforms or services using the discussed features and functionality.
• Have each group present their findings to the class.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose one social media platform or service to research in depth.
• Have students create a project that showcases the features and functionality of the chosen platform or service.
• Projects can be in the form of a presentation, poster, or written report.

Closure

• Have students share their projects with the class.
• Ask students to reflect on what they learned about the chosen platform or service and how it compares to other social media platforms and services.

Assessment

• Observe students during the independent practice activity and provide feedback on their understanding of comparing and contrasting social media platforms and services.
• Evaluate the presentations or reports created during the independent practice activity for understanding of the chosen platform or service and its features and functions.
