Topic: The impact of world war 2 on Africa

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to explain the impact of WWII on Africa
• Students will be able to analyze the causes and effects of WWII on Africa

Materials

• Maps of Africa during WWII
• Handouts with information about WWII and Africa
• Colored pencils or markers

Warm-up

• Ask students if they know what WWII stands for and what countries were involved in the war.
• Have students brainstorm a list of countries that were involved in WWII.
• Review the list with the class and explain that some countries may have been involved in the war for different reasons.

Direct Introduction

• Introduce the topic of WWII and Africa. Ask students if they know anything about how WWII affected Africa.
• Show the map of Africa and point out the different countries. Ask students to name some of the countries on the map and what they know about them.
• Discuss the results of WWII on Africa. Explain that the war had a number of different impacts on Africa, including political, economic, and social.

Guided Practice

• Divide students into small groups and give each group one of the following countries: Ethiopia, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, or South Africa.

• Allow time for students to share what they have learned with the class.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose one of the countries from the Guided Practice and conduct independent research on that country.
• Have students write a brief report on the following: -What was the political status of the country before and during WWII? -What was the economic situation of the country before and during WWII? -What was the social situation of the country before and during WWII?
• Have students share their reports with the class.

• Review the key points of the lesson.
