Topic: Kenyan government formation, structure and functions

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to explain how the Kenyan government is formed trough an electoral process.

Materials

• Textbook
• PowerPoint presentation
• Whiteboard or blackboard
• Markers or chalk

Warm-up

• Ask students to give an example of a country that has a democratic government.
• Ask them to explain how the government of that country is formed.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of democracy and explain why it is important.
• Explain the electoral process, including how candidates are nominated, how they campaign, and how voters cast their ballots.
• Discuss the structure and functions of the different branches of government, including the executive, legislative, and judiciary.

Guided Practice

• Divide the class into small groups and give each group a scenario in which a candidate wins an election. Have the groups discuss how the electoral process would play out in this scenario and why.
• Bring the groups back together and discuss their findings.

Independent Practice

• Have the students research a specific aspect of the electoral process, such as the processes for registering to vote, the role of the Electoral Commission, or the voting process itself.
• Have the students create a poster or presentation that includes information on their chosen aspect of the electoral process, as well as any other information they have found on the topic.

Closure:

• Have the students share their posters or presentations with the class.
• As a class, discuss the importance of the electoral process in forming the government and the importance of being registered and voting in elections.
