Topic: The subject in the Arabic language

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify the subject and its role in a sentence in Arabic.
• Students will be able to compose a sentence using the subject in Arabic.

Materials

• Arabic sentences with the subject already identified
• Pen and paper for each student

Warm-up

• Ask students if they know what the subject is in a sentence.
• Ask them to give an example of a sentence with a subject.
• Write down the examples on the board.

Direct Instruction

• Explain that the subject is the person, place, or thing that is doing the action in a sentence.
• Give examples of sentences with different subjects (e.g. I, you, this, that).
• Ask students to identify the subject in the examples.
• Model how to find the subject by asking students to identify the subject in a few sentences that you give them.

Guided Practice

• Give students a few more examples of sentences with different subjects and have them work in pairs to identify the subjects and write them down.
• Walk around the room and assist students as needed.

Independent Practice

• For the independent practice activity, have students choose a book or article in Arabic that they have previously read or seen, and find all of the sentences with a specific subject.
• Have them write down the subject and a translation of the sentence, and shade in the-subject-specific word in the sentence.

Closure

• Review the main points of the lesson with the students: the importance of using the subject in Arabic and how to identify it in a sentence.
• Remind them to pay special attention to the subject when reading or listening to Arabic, as it can help them understand the sentence better.

Assessment

• Observe students during independent practice and give feedback on their use of the subject in their compositions.
• Have students work in pairs to correct each other's compositions and give feedback on their use of the subject.
• Have students take a quiz on identifying and using the subject in Arabic sentences.
