Topic: Regular verbs

Objectives & Outcomes

• To be able to use ser and estar correctly when given regular verbs.

Materials

• Regular verbs written on cards (e.g. hablar, comer, vivir, etc.)
• Pen and paper for each student

Warm-up

• Ask the students if they know what a regular verb is and what distinguishes it from an irregular verb. Allow a few students to share their thoughts.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the verbs on the handout and give examples of how they are used in various tenses (present, preterit, imperfect).
• Explain the difference between ser and estar and give examples of how to use each in different tenses (present, preterit, imperfect).
• Review any irregular verbs from the warm-up.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to complete an exercise where they identify the correct verb form for a given verb in a given tense.
