Free 10th Grade Mass Media, Countable And Uncountable Nouns, Quantifiers Lesson Plan

Topic: Mass Media

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to understand countable and uncountable nouns and how to use quantifiers with them in sentences.
  • Students will be able to identify and provide examples of mass media in their own lives.

Materials

  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Handouts with countable and uncountable nouns and quantifiersExamples of mass media (e.g. TV, newspapers, social media)

Warm-up

  • Ask students to think of as many examples of mass media as they can in a few minutes.
  • Write their examples on the whiteboard.
  • Ask students to share their examples with a partner and discuss any they have in common.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the concept of countable and uncountable nouns.
  • Countable nouns are those that can be counted (e.g. one apple, two apples) and uncountable nouns are those that cannot be counted (e.g. water, air).
  • Explain that quantifiers are words that indicate the amount of something (e.g. some, many, a lot of).
  • Introduce some common quantifiers and give examples of how they are used (e.g. some + plural noun: some apples, some cats; a lot of + singular noun: a lot of apple, a lot of cat).
  • Give some examples of countable and uncountable nouns from the list that the students came up with in the warm-up activity.

Guided Practice

  • Divide the class into small groups and give each group a set of news articles.
  • Ask the students to identify the countable and uncountable nouns in each article and quantify any quantifiers they find.
  • Have the groups share their findings with the class and go over any questions or issues.

Independent Practice

  • For the independent practice, give each student a sheet of news articles and ask them to identify the countable and uncountable nouns and quantify any quantifiers themselves.
  • As the students work, walk around the classroom and assist as needed.

Closure

  • Review the main points of the lesson: the difference between countable and uncountable nouns and how to quantify quantifiers with -'s and -s.
  • Ask the students to share one thing they learned or found interesting about the topic.

Assessment

  • Collect and grade the group presentations.
  • Use the quiz from the independent practice as a formative assessment to check for understanding.
  • Give a final grade based on the project presentation and the final quiz.
