Topic: To Kill a Mockingbird short summary

Objectives & Outcomes

• By the end of this lesson, students will be able to write a short answer response about the moral values presented in chapters 1-3 of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Materials

• Copies of To Kill a Mockingbird chapters 1-3
• Writing paper and pencils/pens

Warm-up

• Ask students what they know about To Kill a Mockingbird.
• Write their responses on the board and discuss as a class.
• Ask students what they think the moral of the story is so far based on what they have read.

Direct Instruction

• Explain that a short summary of To Kill a Mockingbird is a brief overview of the plot and main characters.
• Tell students that they need to focus on the main themes and moral values of the novel in their summaries.
