Topic: writing research reports

Objectives & Outcomes

• By the end of this lesson, students will be able to write a research report on a given topic effectively.

Materials

• Access to a library or online database for research
• Writing materials (pen or pencil, paper)

Warm-up

• Ask students what a research report is and what is its purpose.
• Discuss the importance of being able to write research reports effectively.
• Ask students to share some examples of research reports they have read or written in the past.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of the research report and its structure.
• Explain that a research report is a written presentation of the findings of a research project.
• Discuss the different components of a research report, including the introduction, body, and conclusion.
• Provide examples of each component and discuss their purpose.
• Emphasize the importance of conducting thorough research and citing sources properly.

Guided Practice

• Provide students with a research topic and ask them to conduct a brief research to gather enough information to write a short report.
• As a class, review the information and discuss how it can be organized into the different components of a research report.
• Have students work in small groups to draft a preliminary version of their report, with guidance and feedback from the teacher.

Independent Practice

• Have students work on completing and polishing their reports, with assistance as needed from the teacher.
