Materials

  • Flashcards with simple daily activities (e.g. "nap," "eat breakfast," "take a shower")
  • Pen and paper for each student

Warm-up

  • Review the past simple tense with the students. Ask them to describe a recent event using the past simple tense (e.g. "I ate dinner last night," "We went to the park yesterday").
  • Next, have the students brainstorm a list of simple daily activities (e.g. "nap," "eat breakfast," "take a shower").
  • Review the list with the students and ask them to identify which simple present tense verb would be used to describe each activity (e.g. "nap" --> "nap"s, "eat breakfast" --> "eats breakfast," "take a shower" --> "takes a shower").

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the concept of present simple tense to the students. Explain that this tense is used to describe facts and daily activities that are ongoing or habitual.

  • Have the students practice identifying which simple present tense verb is used to describe each activity using the list.

Guided Practice

  • Using the same list of daily activities, have the students work in pairs to identify which simple present tense verb is used to describe each activity.
  • Have the students share their answers with the class and discuss any errors or misconceptions.

Independent Practice

  • Ask the students to choose one daily activity (e.g. take a shower, eat breakfast, brush teeth).
  • Have them write a short sentence using the simple present tense to describe the activity they chose.
  • Have the students share their sentences with the class and discuss any errors or misconceptions.
