Personality

Topic: Personality

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to ask and answer questions about other people's personalities.

Materials

  • Pictures of different people (e.g., a veterinarian, a police officer, a teacher, a computer programmer, a chef, etc.)
  • Chart paper and markers

Warm-up

  • Ask students to raise their hand if they know what personality is.
  • Ask a few students to share their ideas about personality.

Introduction

  • Tell students that today they will learn how to ask and answer questions about other people's personalities.
  • Ask them to think about their friends and family members. Who are they? How are they? (e.g., friendly, kind, silly, etc.)
  • Introduce the concept of "personality" and explain that it refers to the unique combination of personality traits that make up who we are as individuals.
  • Use the handouts to go over the different personality traits and give examples of each. Ask students to share examples of people they know who have each trait.

Guided Practice

  • Divide the class into small groups and give each group a set of index cards and markers.
  • Have the students work together to create a collage of the different personality traits they discussed, using the examples they provided.
  • After they have finished their collages, have each group present their collage to the class and explain their choices.

Independent Practice

  • Give each student a copy of a different personality trait (e.g. "likes to read" or "clever") and have them decorate a shoe-box with the trait.
  • Once they have finished, have them share their shoe boxes with a partner and ask them questions about the personality trait they have chosen.

Closure

  • Review the different personality traits that were learned today and ask students to give examples of each.
  • Ask students to share something they learned about personalities today.

Assessment

  • Observe students during independent practice and give feedback on their posters.
  • Ask students to reflect on their own personality traits and give an example of each one.
