Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to identify and write conditionals in English.

Materials

  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Examples of conditionals (e.g. "If I go to the party, I will bring alcohol." "Unless you bring alcohol, I will not go to the party.")

Warm-up

  • Ask students to give an example of a conditional statement.
  • Write their answers on the board.
  • Ask students if they can explain what a conditional statement is and how to recognize them.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the concept of conditionals and explain that they are statements that depend on a condition (or conditionals).
  • Show students the different types of conditionals (if-then, alternative, and future) and give examples of each.
  • Have students work in pairs to identify and write conditional statements, using the different types of conditionals.

Guided Practice

  • Have students work in pairs to identify and write conditional statements, using the different types of conditionals.
  • Have students share their conditional statements with the class and have the class correct any mistakes.

Independent Practice

  • Have students choose a scenario (e.g. going on a vacation, winning a prize, getting a new pet).
  • Have students write a series of conditional statements for the chosen scenario, using each of the different conditional types.
  • Have students decorate their conditional statements and present them to the class.

Closure

  • Review the different conditional types and discuss the importance of using them in
  • language.
  • Have students share one thing they learned about conditionals today.

Assessment

  • Observe students during the group and independent practice activities to ensure they are
  • understanding and using conditionals correctly.
  • Collect and review their written conditionals to assess their understanding.
