Topic:Analysing context

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to analyse the context of To Kill a Mockingbird in order to better understand how it influences character development.

Materials

• Copies of To Kill a Mockingbird for each student
• Handouts with context-related quotes from the novel

Warm-Up

• Ask students to think about the characters in To Kill a Mockingbird and how they might have been different if the story was set in a different time or place.
• Have students share their thoughts with a partner or small group.

Direct Instruction
