Objectives & Outcomes

• By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the basics of Computer aided design and its applications.

Materials

• Computer with internet access
• CAD software (optional)

Warm-up

• Ask the student if they have ever heard of Computer aided design or CAD.
• Ask the student what they think CAD is and what it is used for.
• Write their answers on the board.

Direct Instruction

• Explain that CAD is a tool that engineers and designers use to create and visualize designs and 3D models of objects and structures.
• Show the student some examples of CAD software, such as Autodesk Maya or AutoCAD.
• Explain the basic functions of CAD, including drawing and manipulating 3D shapes, creating and editing 2D drawings, and rendering images of the design.
• Show the student how to use the basic functions of the software that is being taught.

Guided Practice

• Have the student follow along with a step-by-step tutorial to learn how to use the basic functions of the software.
• As the student works through the tutorial, provide feedback and assistance as needed.
• Allow the student to practice using the software on their own, with guidance from the instructor.

Independent Practice
