Objectives and Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify and scope potential opportunities for entrepreneurship.
• Students will be able to conduct a feasibility study to test the potential of the opportunity.

Materials

• Worksheet with potential business opportunities (e.g. "starting a coffee shop," "creating an app," "training dogs")
• Worksheet with questions for the feasibility study (e.g. "costs," "market size," "competition")
• Pencils and paper for writing

Warm-up

• Ask students to think of a hobby or something they are passionate about and write it down on a piece of paper.
• Have students turn to a partner and discuss their hobby or passion and why they think it would make a good business.
• Have a few volunteers share their discussions with the class.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of entrepreneurship and explain that it is the process of starting a business.
• Discuss the importance of identifying and taking advantage of opportunities, and how scoping and testing can help reduce risk.
• Use examples from the class to demonstrate the steps of identifying and scoping an opportunity, as well as testing a potential business idea.

Guided Practice

• Have the students work in small groups to brainstorm and curate a list of potential business ideas.
• Have each group present their ideas to the class and discuss the potential opportunities, risks, andNext steps.

Independent Practice

• Have the students choose one of the business ideas from the brainstorming session to pursue.
• Ask the students to create a business plan for their chosen idea, including a financial model, market research, and a business plan.
• Have the students present their business plans to the class.

Closure:

• Review the steps of the entrepreneurial process and the importance of each step.
• Ask the students to reflect on the process of creating a business plan and the challenges they faced.

Assessment:

• Observe students during the process of creating their business plan and provide feedback. This can be done through observations during class and one-on-one feedback sessions.
• Have students complete a reflection worksheet on the process of creating their business plan and the challenges they faced.
