Objectives & Outcomes

• Learners will be able to design and make a christmas themed santa sock.
• Learners will be able to identify and use the key steps of the design process - identify problems, brainstorm solutions, create a prototype, and evaluate the prototype - in the design and construction of their santa sock.

Materials

• Yarn
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Paper
• Santa sock pattern (optional)

Warm-up

• Have learners walk around the room and talk with a partner about what they want to draw on their santa sock.
• Then, have them draw a quick sketch of their idea on a piece of paper.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the design process and explain that we will be using it to design and make a christmas themed santa sock.
• Define the key terms: brainstorming, research, sketching, prototype making, and finalizing.
• Show the learners some examples of different types of santa socks and ask them to brainstorm ideas for designing their own christmas themed santa sock.
• Have them take out their pens and sketch out their ideas on paper.

Guided Practice

• Have the learners work in pairs or small groups and have them research different types of christmas themed materials and decorations that they could use to decorate their santa sock.
• Have them bring their research and their sketches to the table and use it as a starting point for creating a prototype of their christmas themed santa sock.
